Button Hole Hack!!!

Check out this hack from Simple Simon and Company!! 

❌If you’ve ever sewn a button hole, you know the frustrations of getting to the end of your project and seeing that you’ve sewn that hole right up. A great way to avoid this is to pin the button hole. Just slide a pin across the end of the hole so that you’ll see it when you get close. This way, you can get on with sewing as fast as you want without worries of having to cut the hole open when you’re finished.

Vacuum Filters & Belts

Remember when I was telling you about the assortment of bags we carry @atascaderosewingandvacuum ? Wellllllll, we also carry any and all vacuum belts and filters! I know this isn’t the most fun thing to talk about nor is this a glamorous post BUT replacing your belt and filter on your vacuum is not something a lot of people often think of, but it will GREATLY improve and enhance the performance and cleaning. Think about it... your filter is in charge of the air your vacuum is blowing. You do not want it blowing out particles of the gunk you’re sucking up, #amiright

No More Mismatched Quilt Blocks!

Remember that time you put a lot of effort and time into piecing some blocks for a quilt? Piecing complete, but wait!! My blocks are not matching in size. My quilt top will not be the size that it was supposed to be:(

Then I purchased my 1/4 inch pressure foot, oh the way it simplified my piecing!! Perfect 1/4 inch every time. 

I am using the inner edge of the toe for a perfect 1/8 inch seam:)

Trouble Piecing Little Fabric Pieces

 I’ve been sewing on tiny little patches: 1.5″ x 2.5″ rectangles and 1.5″ squares, shown above. I was having trouble with the fabric migrating down into the needle hole so I changed to the throat plate with the teeny tiny opening.

I have a couple needle plates. The one below has the wide hole. It’s used for regular stitches, where the needle must swing far to the left and right. This one tends to eat very tiny patches, and you don’t need that large opening if you’re sewing straight stitches.

The one above has a tiny opening. There’s no space for the needle to move left or right so it’s used only for straight stitching. It’s great for piecing tiny patches.

The patches do not get pulled down into the throat plate and your sewing is fun again! If you don’t own one for your machine, consider getting one—it makes a huge difference in many cases! You must remember not to switch to zigzag with this throat plate, though—instant broken needle.
